WHAT WE’RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON

ERIC HOLMES—I’ve been doing Christian ministry work for the last six years now. Over and over again, God has blessed the efforts of me and my team—from sharing God’s good news at a Mexican orphanage, to coordinating Operation Christmas Child shoebox parties, to hosting various studies and discussion groups. Most of the studies I’ve led have been based on my book 8 Great Wonders, in which I clearly define what ‘a personal relationship with God’ is and how we can begin to experience this relationship in tangible ways. Presenting this message is my life’s passion.

Two years ago, we worked together with many friends of our ministry to place 105 copies of 8 Great Wonders in the Johnson County, Kansas jail facilities in Olathe and Gardner. In recent months, we’ve been hearing more and more stories of people who found the book in the jail libraries and were impacted positively. These stories have ignited a passion to get the book into the other county jails that surround and include Kansas City—Jackson, Clay, Platte, and Cass Counties in Missouri, as well as Wyandotte and Leavenworth Counties in Kansas. And in addition to this, we want to contact the church leaders and volunteers who have a heart for prison ministry in these locations. We want to let them know that 8 Great Wonders is in the jail library, and that we’d be more than happy to support them if they want to organize book study groups with the inmates.

As we begin this outreach, I want to offer everyone the same opportunity to partner with us that a number of you took advantage of two years ago. There are three areas in which you can partner with us to make this work as effective as possible.

·        Pray! – Someone once said that we plan as though success depends on us, while we pray as though success depends on God … because it does. Our desire is that there would be several followers of Christ who are willing to add the names of jails and prison ministers to their prayer lists with a commitment to pray for them consistently. Again, because effectiveness with these inmates depends on God’s involvement and blessing.

·        Refer! – Do you know someone involved in prison ministry? Even if they volunteer in another setting, like a penitentiary, or in another city or state, we want to make materials available to them which they could use to share the message of a personal relationship with God. You can e-mail your referrals to: Eric@EricHolmesMinistries.org.

·        Provide! – Although the 8 Great Wonders book retails for $18.99 (through the publisher), we can provide copies for the inmates for only $10. This means that you could Adopt-a-Book (or several) for $10 each, or for a donation of $100 or more you could Adopt-a-Library. In any case, we would be more than happy to send your books to the location of your choosing.

My hope is that a number of you will see the potential to influence lives through this effort. Please prayerfully consider what part, or parts, God may want you to support. Jesus said that He came to set the captives free. Together, we have the opportunity to join Him in His work.
